“Get paid to” programs (or GPTs as they are often called) are one of the many ways that freelancers can make money from a  home business. If you’ve been looking for a work at home job, you’ve no doubt run across ads that claim that you can make money by reading e-mails, answering surveys and trying free samples. The good news is many freelancers make money doing those exact things. The bad news is that this particular industry is rife with scammers. If you are interested in getting involved with GPT programs, you’ll have to do your homework and take special precautions to protect yourself and your computer.

It should be noted that very few people make full time income from GPT programs. Like mystery shopping, GPT should be used as a supplemental income source at best. For many freelancers, the GPT programs are a fun and easy way to earn some extra money when they need it. People who have experience with the programs recommend that you never rely on GPT to pay your monthly bills. But they can be a perfect solution to earn money for a special occasion or holiday shopping.

Just what are GPT programs? They fall into three basic categories: get paid to read e-mail, get paid to fill out surveys and get paid to try products. Each type has its own pros and cons. Before you start any GPT program, you should take some steps to protect your personal information. You will be required to give your personal information for many of these programs and the less you actually say about yourself the better.

To start you should register a separate e-mail address for your GPT purposes. Many programs can result in a lot of spam mail, so you’ll want to keep your main e-mail address separate. You can also register with NetZero to get a free voicemail inbox and private phone number. This is helpful in keeping your home phone free of telemarketing calls.

Get paid to read e-mail programs will pay you a few cents for receiving e-mail and clicking on links. Normally these e-mails offer special deals on products or encourage you to sign up for programs. Sometimes, depending on the e-mail program, you will get more money or “points” if you try the offer. You are not obligated to try the offers, and will get paid a small amount just for clicking on the link inside of the e-mail. There are many popular paid e-mail companies. Do some research before you sign up for a program to make sure that people are actually getting paid. Try not to sign up for too many programs at once or your GPT e-mail address will be swamped.

Getting paid to fill out surveys works in a similar way. You will sign up for a survey program and then fill out some personal information. You will be matched to surveys that are looking for the opinions of people in your income bracket, of your age or one of several different qualification factors. Depending on the company, you will get paid per survey, or completing surveys will earn you points that can later be redeemed. Just as with get paid to read e-mail programs, do research on survey companies before you sign up. There are hundreds out there but only a handful are worth the time and effort.

Finally there are get paid to try products programs. These programs pay significantly more than the other GPT programs. However, you will be required to pay anywhere from $1 to $10 to try the products. When you use these kinds of programs, you have to be careful to take complete records of what you will be receiving and when you need to cancel service or return the item. Most of the time you will be registered for recurring billing for a monthly service, which can be cancelled within the initial 7 to 14 days. You can call the companies and cancel the service, yet still be paid for signing up for the GPT program.

Remember that GPT programs are a great way to supplement income but are not something to be relied on for monthly bills.

Many who are interested in Internet niche marketing focus on creating websites which either promote products or services which they sell directly or entice website visitors to click on an advertiser’s link. The former is typically considered a commercial website while the latter typically refers to a pay per click website where the website owner profits when the users click on the advertisers’ links. In this article we will examine both types of websites and will discuss options for finding advertisers for each type.

Finding Advertisers for a Commercial Website

As previously mentioned a commercial website is one in which the website offers products or services for sale directly. In this scenario those who operate the website are generally profiting through the sale of products or services. However, this is not the only possibility for revenue. The marketer may still profit from sales through their website but may also profit through these advertisements as well.

Here the website owner collects their fees in exchange for displaying the advertisement and the profit is not linked to sales generated for the advertiser.

For example a website which sells surfboards and surfing lessons may solicit advertisements from companies who sell bathing suits. This is a symbiotic relationship because the owner of the surfboard website receives the advertising dollars and the owner of the bathing suit website receives the potential for increased website traffic.

When searching for an advertiser it is wise to be prepared to provide them with useful information. Information which will be particularly relevant to potential advertisers is current search engine rankings and recent traffic statistics. This is important because the advertiser wants to know the potential for increased traffic to his website. An advertiser is much more likely to invest in advertising on a top ranking website with high traffic than on a poor ranking website with few monthly visitors.

Finding Advertisers for a Pay per Click Website

Generally speaking, pay per click websites are informational websites which provide content and information relative to the advertisers on the website in an attempt to entice visitors to click on the advertiser’s links. Pay per click campaigns may also run on commercial websites but when this is the case they are considered to be a secondary form of profit.

Finding advertisers for pay per click websites is often a simple process. This process is usually simplified by the fact that the advertiser is not paying the website owner for just placing the ad on the website. The advertiser pays the website owner when visitors click through the link to his website. This lowers the risk for the advertiser by ensuring he is only paying for visitors who actually enter his website.

There are many free programs available, where relevant advertisements are served to websites. Google AdSense is one example of this type of program. In this program, websites are evaluated for content and relevant advertisements are placed on the website each time it is viewed. Some of these advertisements may pay per impression meaning the website owner generates revenue each time the advertisement is displayed but the majority of these advertisements are pay per click meaning the revenue is generated when a user clicks on these links.

There are also other programs available which operate essentially as link exchanges. These programs will require you to display a certain number of advertisements on your website in exchange for each website which displays an advertisement for your website. These programs are very convenient because you don’t have to search for advertisers but the downside is you may not have much control over the advertisements which are placed on your website.

Using ClickBank To Find Winning Product Ideas Part 1

ClickBank is the biggest online marketplace for digital products on the entire internet.  As I’m sure you’re aware, digital products and products that are instantly available after payment are extremely popular.

People want information and they want it fast (as in instantly) so ClickBank is serving a very rabid market that has money to spend and loves spending it.

The good thing about this is that you can find product ideas that are already successful and create one that’s similar.  This means you can create product without any market research, any testing or without an chance of failure.

The product is already selling and selling well on ClickBank so you can ride that into your own highly successful product!

So how do we find products on ClickBank that we can use as ideas to create products without all the usual hassles that go with product research and development?

Simple…

First, go to the following webpage in your favorite web browser…

After the page loads, click the “Buy Products” tab at the top of the page.

Now you want to select the type of product that you are looking to create from the Category drop down menu.  There is also a sub-category drop down menu that may offer additional categories that are more closely defined to niche markets that may contain a category or subject that you are looking for so use this is you see something of interest.

If you have a more specific  type of product in mind rather than the broad categories that they have you can also use the “Keyword” search box to enter a word or phrase that is more targeted to the product or offering that you have in mind.

Next click the “Go” button and you will be presented with a list of products that matches your criteria.

These listings are ranked in the order of how good they sell.  So if you see a listing at the top of a page that means that is the number one selling product in the criteria that you selected.

If you find that you don’t get the type of product that you are looking for in those listings try scaling down the criteria that you have entered.  For example if you enter “eBay money easy” in the keyword box, try scaling that down to just the word eBay because this will still bring you a bunch of eBay related books that may spark your interest.

Now that you have a listing of proven, best selling products that match or closely match the criteria that you are looking for, it’s time that you take that information and leverage it to your full advantage!

Before we get to that I want to point out that using this tactic is extremely effective and will save you hundreds of hours in testing and research work and save you thousands in research and testing expenses.  Until now you’ve had to come up with an idea, create the product and test it to the market to see if it sells.

Google Adsense, Is It Right For Me?

Undoubtedly, you've heard about Google's AdSense and you are thinking about giving it a go. But is it really worth placing an AdSense banner on your site?

The answer is a definite yes. You could always have some other banner on your site, or even use some search of affiliate ad program and that would probably make you some money, given of course that your site enjoys a healthy amount of visitors. However with affiliate marketing, it is expected that the visitor from your website completes a sale before you are remunerated.

But that's nowhere near what you get for using AdSense. There are people who earn in excess of 100.000 dollars per year by using AdSense. And it doesn't just stop with making more money. Firstly, the ads are text only. That means they're by far less obtrusive on your visitors then your average, flashy banner that's designed to catch the eye of the visitor.

With Google AdSense that just about never happens: the ads present on your site will always be in sync with whatever your visitors are interested in and that adds to your site's value and to the revenue it produces.

What's more, the look of these banners and their size is customizable, which means they will feel more integrated with the rest of your site's content, which brings an increase in your site's overall visual quality as opposed to a traditional approach.

For many people, there's also a great problem with finding people to advertise on their site as well. AdSense is clearly the easiest solution available to this problem today.

All you need to do is add an AdSense banner on your website (other then registering with the program of course) is to copy & paste a few lines and you're all done, you get to choose where the banners go, how large they are and how they integrate with the rest of your site.

For any webmaster out there, that's a killer scheme because it lets you draw the line between your site's usability level and the amount of advertising you wish to have. Some people need the money badly while others just keep AdSense running to pay for the hosting of their website.

AdSense is a great advertising program because a lot of thought has went into making it "just work for everyone". It works great for the people who use AdWords, for the webmasters using AdSense, and most importantly for the visitors of the websites.

- Use a readable font: Don’t use anything that has curly-cues or looks like Old English script. Rather, use a standard font that is easy to read such as Times New Roman, Arial, Courier or Helvetica. You want to use a font that is both easy on the eyes and compatible with all web browsers. Using a fancy font may look nice on your computer, but it can be thrown all out of whack when viewed on a different computer. Don’t alienate your visitors.
- Keep it simple: There’s nothing that turns a visitor off more than a website that takes too long to load or requires a bunch of additional software or plug-ins to run. If your fancy site intro won’t load or your visitor needs to download a plug-in to view it, most visitors won’t take the time to wait. Make sure your design, layout and navigation are all simple and easy to use and don’t require any special functions.

Since the Supreme Court’s decision in 1998 to grant patents based on business methods, the Patent and Trademark Office has been inundated with applications of this type. There is currently a four-year wait for patent application approvals.

Before 1998, it was normally the assumption that a method of doing business could not be patented, and only a few property protections were in place. But in 1998, a landmark case between Signature Financial Group and State Street Bank and Trust, handed down a decision that a patent could be obtained based on a method of doing business. The dispute between these two companies involved a way to calculate concerning mutual funds, and the Supreme Court agreed that a particular method for calculating them could be patented under a business method patent.

As the name implies, business method patents refers to the method or the way in which the company does business. Business method patents are not a new major category of patents like plant or design patents, but is instead a type of utility patent. Patents for business methods belong to the same family of utility patents that are granted for new electronic equipment, or pharmaceutical products. The business method patent is classified at the Patent Office as a “Data processing patent (in the) financial, cost, management, or business determination”.

For an example of a business method patent, consider a web site or company that invents a new way of advertising for customers on the World Wide Web.

Business method patent applications have exploded with e-commerce and the Internet. If an e-commerce company can continually generate a profit with a new technique and can also prevent their competitors from using this method for at least seventeen years, then e-commerce of this sort becomes very attractive to many entrepreneurs. Previously, business methods on the internet were fair game for anyone who figured out how to implement them. With a business method patent in place, this changes dramatically!

Since the flood of applications to the Patent Office, various online companies have applied for and been granted patents on a wide variety of methods, many of those involving Internet shopping or Web commerce advertising.

In order to qualify for a business method patent there are various criteria that must be met. First of all, a business method patent is granted for a method or type of business software that is practical in its purpose. This is a criterion which is common for granting of all patents.

Another criterion is that the business method must not be obvious. The Patent Office will not approve applications for methods that they have deemed to be entirely obvious. It is easy to prove that a method is practical, but a little harder to prove it is not obvious.

A third criterion a business method patent must fulfill is that it should be something that is worth patenting. The Patent and Trademark Office will not just approve almost anything that comes through their office, but will scrutinize the applications to make sure they are worthy of being patented. This is the most subjective of the criteria that are applied, but it is not generally difficult to demonstrate that an idea is worthwhile, if it actually is.

Lastly, the method to be patented should be something that is new to the industry. The Patent Office will not patent anything that has been in use for a long time. The method or software must have been in use no more than one prior to the date of the patent application.

Like the other patent applications, the costs of the business method patent can vary from $2,000 to $10,000 or more depending on the costs of the patent lawyer’s fees (if you use one). Since the business method patent is a form of a utility patent, the patent owner must pay maintenance fees for the patent. These fees are approximately three times the application fee, spread over the course of the life of the patent. Usually the business method patent is valid for an average of twenty years. However, with the popularity of this type of patent, expect at least a two to three years’ wait before the patent is approved.

Make sure you consider a business method patent if you have unique business methods.

One of the easiest ways to make a profit from your website initially is by means of ad revenue. We’ve all seen it—those banner ads, Google ads or even text link ads scattered throughout our favorite websites. If over done, however, these ads can be quite irritating and actually detract from the web browsing experience.

But if the ads are used properly, you can make a great deal of revenue while hardly intruding upon the visitor’s browsing experience. First of all, let’s talk about how this ad revenue business works.

Both types of links are looked on favorably by search engines although non-reciprocal links are often given a slight advantage.

These inbound links can be an effective component of a strategy to promote a niche website. Visitors to websites who provide a link to your website are given the opportunity to enter your website. We have already discussed how search engine rankings can be part of website promotion but inbound links essentially rely on the popularity and high search engine rankings of other websites to promote their own niche website.

In negotiating deals for inbound links, website owners should look for other websites which complement their own website and have a similar audience. For example a website selling novelty basketballs might look for websites which sell basketball hoops. Caution should also be used to avoid link farms which do not offer significantly promotional value to a niche website. A link farm is a website which offers nothing more than a list of links to other websites. While these types of links may not be harmful to a website they are also not likely to be beneficial either.

Commuting to and from work everyday can take its toll on every person who may have spent five or ten years of his life waking up every morning and dreading the traffic, the pollution and the now-familiar faces of his officemates.  Because of this, working at home has always been an attracted option for almost everyone.

But not everyone can start a home based business from scratch.  A home based business, no matter how simple, will require capital and resources.  But the twenty four dollar question being asked by most people is "would it be possible to start a home based business with minimal capital?"

A home based business is generally cheaper to establish compared to a regular business primarily because the former will require minimal overhead.  A big part of capitalization needed for a regular business will go to the initial and monthly rent expenses but this is not necessary for a home based business.

Household facilities like telephones and refrigerators, computers and other office equipment can also be used for the home based business so there is no need to put up additional capital for these.  The only capital you have to put up is for marketing although you can be creative and still use existing materials for this.

There are plenty of home based business ideas to choose from depending on your hobbies, interests and experiences.  If you are good in cooking and budgeting you can start with a catering business.  You do not need to buy anything else except your raw ingredients and perhaps some basic professional dishes for catering.  You can start with the business using the ordinary kitchen utensils you have and you can invest on more professional equipment as you earn from the business.

If you own a computer and a printer you can already start a printing and computer home based business even with minimum capital.  Among those you need to buy includes extra ink for your printer, and perhaps bond and specialty papers.  This home based business will require your creativity and computer experience so no need to invest more than what is necessary if you are still starting the business.

Another cheap home based business is photography and photo editing.  If you have a digital camera and a computer plus you have the basic knowledge in photography and digital photo editing and storing then you can already start the business.  You can start a home based photography shop, taking advantage of the fact that most people are too busy to go to malls or photo shops to have their pictures taken.  Most clients would need photos for job and passport applications.

You can also offer photo restoration or transfer of their existing photos to CD.
There are other home based businesses that requires little o no capital at all depending on the resources you already have.  It is a matter f researching and taking stock of what you k now, what you have and what you intent to put up as a business venture.

Why work for someone else and commute to an office daily when you can establish you very own business right in the comforts of your home?  This would mean flexible hours for working, lesser expense on traveling to and from work and no boss to nag you everyday.

Imagine person “A” working as a sales employee of Company XYZ.  Person “A” works up to the wee hours of the morning just so he can sell advertisement space worth at least a million for the smallest size.    When the sale goes through, he gets $20 worth of commission.  Person “A” here enriches Company XYZ through his efforts but he only gets his base pay plus the $20 commission---all that for the millions of pesos he brings in to Company XYZ’s coffers.

If Person “A” devises a way to establish a home based business similar to what he is doing now for Company XYZ, getting his old clients and building up their list, then perhaps he will have more to take home each month than if he remains working for Company XYZ.

If you are still unsure about your business prospects but are raring to start a home based business, you can do it on a part time basis.  This means you will start your home based venture but still hold your eight to five job for financial security until such time you are confident enough about your venture.

However, you need to research and evaluate each opportunity carefully and choose cleverly. You can really earn tremendous income, work the hours and days you desire, be with your family and your “own boss”.

Legitimate home-based business opportunities actually are extremely successful if they are not quick get rich schemes.

While there really is no proven way to determine that a company is offering a legitimate business home-based opportunity, there are clues and indication that can show you. 

Remember, when in doubt, better turn around and look for another.  Never be hasty with your decisions.  The right timing will come, in due time.

Decide first what type of job you’d like to do and then work from there. If you are truly a people person and need to get out each day, direct sales or a local service business might be right for you. If you are the type of mom who lives online and is comfortable with the Internet, try finding a job or starting your own business on the web. If you like the comfort of having a weekly paycheck, look into telecommuting positions.
