Today the Internet is much more than a simple document storage/retrieval system. It is a great vehicle for anyone who wants to setup an online business with little or no money and a want-it-now attitude.

I have a programming background but it was not my technical know-how that allowed me succeed in this area but my trials and errors as an online business owner.

I have tried many opportunities and techniques but it was through my failures I've learnt and consolidated a simple technique to succeed as an online business owner.

I can assure you that, although you will need to acquire some basic technical skills, your success will depend not on your programming or typing skills but more on what you have between your ears.

Below is my list of what you'll need and have to do, to succeed as an online business owner.

1. Have a dream and persistence. If you haven't got a dream and the persistence to follow it through then you will fail, guarantied.

2. Have a mentor. Find someone who has gained the experience in this field. Beg, crawl, wash their car, do whatever takes to become their student. Listen to their advice and learn from their failures and successes. You'll save yourself a lot of time, effort and money not to mention heartache and disappointment.

3. Find a hobby, a 'pet' project, something you are interested in and would do without payment or rewards. If it gets you excited, keeps you awake at nights thinking about it, it will provide you with opportunities to make money from it too. For example, once you have a project/activity that you live for, be it surfing, stamp collection, video games, mobile phones, you could start a local club. Once the club is established you can start a club website. Once the website is up and running you can introduce products to promote the club and your project/activity. You get the picture? You probably have seen the film 'Pay it forward'. Well, you can use the same principle in establishing an online business. Give something valuable first and then you'll get your opportunities to reap your rewards.

4. Promote and automate your project website. Once you completed step 3 above and your site is up and running you want to be able to promote your club site to 'outsiders'. You don't have to get technical and bogged down in programming or writing strings of HTML code. There are brilliant software out there to do a lot of 'skilled' tasks with the push of a button (both free and commercial products). Learn to use them well! Promoting your website should be your priority from now on. Get as many people to come to the site as you can and automate this activity. Start a newsletter to keep in touch with your members and provide them with free advice, tips and news on the subject of your project/activity. And again, automate this too. Get software to automatically distribute your newsletters and automatically sort any emails you get in reply to your posts. Set up autoresponders signup new members and to respond to email queries; automate, automate, automate...

5. Once you have enough members and you have an established, loyal group of followers, you can introduce your promotional products and other services that you now want to sell and make money from as a business. You'll have to be gentle and do this bit by bit. You may also find it useful to have another, separate, commercial site for this purpose and simply direct your members there from your 'signature files' or 'letterheads' you send out as part of your club newsletter. By now you should have enough experience in setting up and running a website from step 3 above. If you did have a separate commercial site you run a smaller risk of offending 'purist' club members.

6. Review the operation of your site, experiment and test the effect of site layout, content, headlines etc. Review and look for opportunities to further automate anything that you can to make your site 'self-sustaining'. If you do this you should be able to get yourself more free time to actually enjoy your hobby/project and to go out and look for more new material (advice, tips and news) that you can send out to you members. Once you have a website running and are making money out of it, it is very easy to forget that without new content and looking after your members your business will not survive. So make sure that the time you have freed up by automating your processes, you put back into searching for and providing fresh content and keep on provide a service to your members and keep in mind that they are members because they share your enthusiasm for the hobby and not for your business. Find a gentle balance between that hobby and your commercial interests.

When it comes to advertising, I've tried just about everything. I tried free classified ad sites, I tried FFA sites, I tried banner exchange programs.
The results? Not much.
I was tired of hearing that the Internet is the largest market in human history. Maybe so, but how could I reach those millions of people?
The answer, I discovered, is ezine advertising.
Ezines are sometimes called 'opt-in' lists because everyone who receives an ezine has chosen to do so.
And that's why ezine advertising gets results. People read ezines and they'll read your ad. And if you've matched the ezine to the product you're selling, you've reached your target audience.
There are currently around 90,000 ezines being published every month. So whatever you're selling, there's more than likely an ezine that will take your ad straight to the audience you want to reach.
Ezine advertising is not only effective, it's cheap as well. A 5 line ad in an ezine that goes to 3000 people will cost you between $5 and $20 per issue.
As a general rule, you'll always get back at least the cost of the ad, and usually much more. So there's very little risk.
But there are some tips for successful ezine advertising. Here they are:
1. The first and most important rule is: "Track your Ads!" Say you place an ad in 5 different ezines and get a hundred responses. If you don't track your ads, you won't know which ezines were pulling responses and which weren't.
But how do you track your ads?
Then, when you get a reply with 'ezineA' in the subject field, you'll know which ezine it came from.
For a URL, it's the same principle:
However, if you're going to code your URLs, you'll need a good webstats program to track the coded URLs. Here's another way to code your URLs: for every ezine ad, create a duplicate of your homepage and name the page after the ezine that your ad will appear in. So, if the ad is appearing in EzineA
 
2. Target your audience. It may seem obvious but some advertisers overlook this. If you're selling a web-marketing course, don't advertise in an ezine that deals with stock options; they probably won't be interested.
Use the 'subject categories' in any ezine directory to find ezines that relate to the product you're selling. You can find a list of 56 ezine directories in 'The Free Directory of Ezines' at:
3. Once you've chosen a number of ezines that target your audience, subscribe to them and examine the ads closely. If you see an ad that keeps repeating issue after issue, you can be pretty sure that it's getting results. You've found a good ezine to advertise in.
4. Check to see how many ads are in the ezine. You probably won't get much response from an ad in an ezine that has 15 or 20 ads per issue. Readers of those ezines have become hardened to the ads and have learnt to skip them.
5. Check to see if the ezine publisher has a policy of never running ads for two similar products in the same issue - your ad will be much more effective if it's the only one of its kind in that particular issue.
6. Small ezines Vs. Big ezines: bigger is not always better. The big ezines with 1000's of subscribers tend to have more ads than the small ezines. Also, small ezines with only a few hundred subscribers often have a much more targeted audience than the big ezines.
7. Repeat your ads. Research shows that off the Web, an ad has to be seen about 21 times before someone acts on it; on the Internet it's about 9 times. If your budget allows, try and have your ad repeated at least three times in a particular ezine. Most ezines offer discount packages for bulk advertising.
8. Email address Vs. URL. The advantage of giving an email address is that it gives you the opportunity to send a powerful sales letter to the person who responded to your ad. It's also much easier to track your ads with an email address than a URL.
9. Offer something free in your ad copy. It'll often tip the balance between a response and no response.
10. Keep your ads short, even if you're not using the number of words you're allowed. Short ads are more likely to be read. Keep your sentences short too; they pack much more power. Use the word 'You'. Don't describe your product but tell the reader what your product can do for them.

Work from home programs are in great demand with the coming of another year. Some people are looking to replace their day job, while others are looking to simply make some extra money to pay bills. After the holidays it's no surprise as many people have been forced to use their credit cards to pay for gifts, trips and normal bills.

Some are looking to create additional income so they can buy back some time. Many have a great desire to spend more time with friends and family. I can say that it is very enjoyable to be able to work from the comfort of your home.

Well, you might be wondering what types of work at home programs you could do.  Well if you have minimal typing skills, a computer and access to the Internet you can more than likely do the following programs:

1. Data Entry<br>
2. Type At Home <br>
3. Rebate Processing<br>
4. Online Paid Surveys<br>
5. Home Phone Jobs<br>
6. Chat room support

There are also programs whereby you can save money on the things you already buy monthly, which leaves more money for other things. You can share these programs with others and be paid a small affiliate fee. You would be surprised how many different ways there are to free up or create more income monthly. You have to be willing to try. Some people are not willing to change their buying habits. For those people the programs listed from 1- 6 are probably a better fit.

Many people tend to do multiple programs. The reason is, they can create multiple income streams and focus on the types of programs they enjoy the most.

Whatever you reasons or goals are, you can find at home work that will meet your needs. It takes some time and research. I  recommend either using a web site like mine, but not necessarily mine, that has done the research or be prepared to do it yourself. It must be done, as there are plenty of companies that will take your time and money giving you nothing in return.

Give yourself a chance; pick a good program, join and start working from the comfort of your home. Who knows you may be pleasantly surprised. I know I was and continue to be.

The time requirements for most work at home programs are very flexible and I found that you can normally do them at your own pace. The important thing to remember is that you will have to have the self-discipline to make sure you put in the work at home. Some people have to have a day job, but many do not. This is rather easy to achieve on the Internet. In fact many people managed to profit from this system in the 1990's when Google introduced AdSense and AdWords.  Many people (Mainly stock traders at first), immediately saw the potential for arbitrage in Google's systems and started driving traffic through Adwords ads to high paying Adsense ads on their sites from that very same traffic they were buying through Adwords.  HOWEVER . . . .

Using this system, many people became rich overnight. But after maybe 6 months, Google figured out about what these "Ad Traders", were doing and decided to ban this technique from being used through their advertising systems. Now all systems that are similar to Google's Ad systems got savvy to the arbitrage techniques.

Therefore it is very difficult nowadays to get any low cost traffic to high paying niche ad sites either from search engines, AdWords or any other system, because the search engine’s and Online Ad Firm’s systems are now programmed to ferret out Ad Arbitrage!  But I stumbled upon an even more efficient way to use the Advertising Arbitrage technique, which is even easier and less complicated.

Bidvertiser.com is the website I will be using here in my examples. I chose bidvertiser.com because it was so easy to register with them, and they are not so fussy about paying directly to your PayPal account on time every month.  I suggest using webwire.com for press releases to get traffic to your site, though you may alternatively use PRweb.com - As well you can use Bidvertiser.com and AdSense on your website instead of just Bidvertiser.com, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are driving traffic to your site with Adwords.

First, we want to break down the system that has proven to work for many other people into its basic components:

It's as simple as that. You are going to pay someone to help you attract traffic to your niche website, and then you are going to monetize your web pages so that the traffic generates more income than it cost to generate.

let's talk a little about how you can start building

a large network of friends, clients, associates, and customers

using the social networking website Twitter.

Many new users of Twitter are constantly asking how they can use

the site more effectively for their business and since the site has

grown into an Internet mega monster that is globally known and

talked about, they are right to ask. The fact is Twitter is a fantastic

tool for your IM business.

Internet relationships are very different from actual personal

relationships. They are based primarily on like, know, and trust.

Many people are reaching out to others through social network

websites like Twitter, Facebook and many others.

If you are new to Twitter you may not realize that you can create

your personal or business brand and virtually dominate your

market, simply by building a list of followers.

Let's talk about some of the ways you can you achieve this.

Once you've set up your Twitter account you will want to work on

When you provide value to your followers, you make them happy!

You are also more likely to attract followers. Providing quality

content is always a great way to build your business no matter what

platform you use.

2. It will benefit your brand.

If you point a reader to a source if good information that is truly

relevant and beneficial to them, the amount of trust that they have

in you will increase.

3. It will help you build relationships with the original posters.

Retweeting someone else’s content is an act of kindness, and for

the most part bloggers like to return the favor. You shouldn't expect

someone to retweet your content just because you retweet theirs.

Just keep in mind that your chance of being on the other end of a

retweet increases as you retweet.

Retweeting is all about providing value to your followers so if you

want others to retweet your post then you want to make sure that

you are providing them with quality content worth tweeting about.

The bottom line is retweeting is a great way to add quality and

value to your Twitter page. If done right, retweeting can help you

educate your followers, build your personal brand, increase future

traffic, and connect you to other great people in your niche.

Just be careful if you use it incorrectly, retweeting can actually hurt

your personal brand and future traffic. You want to treat your

Just in case you haven't heard about Adsense, it is the program

that Google uses to place ads from their Adwords program on

individual publisher’s sites.

These ads are contextually related meaning that wedding ads

appear on wedding sites and fishing ads appear on fishing sites.

If you already have a website or blog, it is not hard to start making

money with Adsense.

Adsense is a “fix and forget” residual income system. You simply

copy and paste the code (which is quite simple to do) that the

program provides you with and you can receive income as long as

people visit your site and click on the ads.

different options. You could sell or trade ad space or use banners

from different affiliate programs and it would probably make you

money badly while others just keep Adsense  running to pay for

When you decided to start your business, was your first priority concerned with setting up your filing system for recording your expenses? I seriously doubt it. This simple task (yes it is simple) is usually the item that is the last thing on the new business owner’s mind. The more “important” issues of what product to sell, how am I going to advertise, how much money is it going to cost me, and how much money can I make are the first questions we consider when going into business.

The task of recordkeeping is usually procrastinated until the very last minute, when it is required. It is time to file your tax return, or time to go to the bank to get a loan for the business and the banker wants to see some financial records for the business. This can be a very daunting and cumbersome task if you have to dig through receipts and expenses for the whole year! No wonder we hate keeping records. That’s no fun!

Well, guess what? If you aren’t keeping good, timely, and up-to-date records monthly, you don’t need to be in business. That’s right. I said it. Here are the top five reasons why I truly believe this statement.

1. Lost tax deductions = Lost Money If you are throwing your receipts in a shoebox each month and not keeping an organized record of your income and expenses, I can bet you money that you are losing out on some major tax deductions. A smart businessperson keeps track of her income (cash in) and expenses (cash out) monthly, sometimes even weekly. You do not need a fancy accounting software package to do this. You don’t even need a computer! Simply keep a journal monthly and log in all of your receipts and invoices, and there you have it.

2. High CPA/Tax Preparer Fees = Lost Money I can speak from personal experience, that if you bring in that shoebox of receipts for the year and expect your tax preparer to record and properly deduct your business expenses on your tax return, you are sadly mistaken. Tax season is the busiest time of year for these professionals. If you expect them to do your bookkeeping and recordkeeping as well, expect to pay for it. They don’t have the time, or the desire to make sure that every receipt is accounted for. As a businessperson, it is your responsibility to make sure they are given the right totals and you can trace it right back to your tax return.

3. Too much time spent looking for receipts The time you spend looking for a past receipt for a particular purchase for whatever reason, you can be utilizing this time in advertising your business or producing your product. These are important money generating activities that you are sacrificing due to your lack of recordkeeping.

4. No financial statements Every business owner should review at least the profit and loss statement (income statement) for their business MONTHLY. This important piece of paper tells you if you are making money or losing money. How can you possibly run your business and make a profit if you are not analyzing your sales and expenses continuously? A good recordkeeping system will allow you to have this information at your fingertips.

5. No need for expensive accounting software If you are just starting your business, or are a small business owner, you more than likely do not need software to prepare your books. A simple journal that is kept monthly of your income and expenses is all you need. At a glance, you will know how your business performed for that particular month.

As a business owner, you need to realize the importance of a good recordkeeping system. This should also be a task that the business owner performs for at least three to six months before delegating the job to someone else. You will be able to run your business more effectively, determine possible cycles in the business year, and know where your money is going. Your business will be much more successful if you keep a simple recordkeeping system.

2) A meeting, like any business event, succeeds when it is preceded by planning, characterized by focus, governed by structure, and controlled by a budget.

3) Short meetings free people to work on the essential activities that represent the core of their jobs. In contrast, long meetings prevent people from working on critical tasks such as planning, communicating, and learning.

4) Three things guarantee an unproductive meeting: poor planning, lack of appropriate process, and hostile culture. Effective leaders attend to all of these to create an effective meeting.

5) Effective meetings require sharing control and making commitments.

6) The ultimate goals of every meeting are agreements, decisions, or solutions. Meetings held for other reasons seldom produce anything of value.

7) Unprepared participants will spend their time in the meeting preparing for the meeting.

8) It is better to spend a little time preparing for solutions than to spend a lot of time fixing problems.

9) Meetings are an investment of resources and time that should earn a profit.

10) A meeting can be led from any chair in the room. And if it’s your meeting, you want it to be your chair.

There are still a lot of people out there who do not understand article marketing, nor the role that directories play.

For those who are not finding success with articles, or for those considering starting out, here are a few ground rules that will save you a lot of work in the long run and will likely get your article marketing career off to a much more auspicious start.

Read the article directory's specific terms of service and guidelines. This may seem like a boring, tedious and long winded waste of your valuable time but in the long term it will save you hours of frustration and wasted effort. All directories set their own rules and some are stricter than others. Most directories labor under a huge number of submissions and the work of sifting through them is often the job of one individual. This means that if your opening paragraph or introductory statement is poorly written or contains mistakes, that is as far as the editor will go before hitting the delete key. The luxury of time to edit an author's mistakes or to decline an article as opposed to deleting it, is one that most editors do not have.

Mass submissions are usually viewed as spam. Let's face it, none of us are capable of writing over 200 articles in a day - I would say that even producing more than ten would be a pretty amazing feat of productivity. It should come as no surprise to those submitting large numbers of articles in a 24 hour period to find that they are all deleted. Article directory software usually allows for quick erasure of such submissions, so if you don't want your work to fall victim to mass deletion, don't mass submit. All that is needed is a little common sense. If you are using a submission service, set the option to stagger your submissions over a longer period of time.

Proof read your articles. If you don't know what this means, look it up! If your writing is riddled with spelling errors, poor structure, punctuation horrors and grammatical butchery, don't be surprised if none of them get published. I could write thousands of words on the most common mistakes seen in people's writing. These usually involve spelling and grammar. Spell check your articles, even if you think you're perfect, you will often be surprised at the mistakes you make. If you tend to misspell a word regularly, you will never correct it unless you make yourself aware of it.

If you are of the opinion that these things don't matter (after all, people will know what you mean!) then think again. If you want to write and, more importantly, see your work published and picked up by other website owners and bloggers, you need to demonstrate an ability to write well.

As an example, all the "SEO experts" who talk about search engine optimisation (sic) but don't even understand that being able to spell their claimed occupation correctly would lend a little more credibility to their claims. Just for the record, most words ending in "ize" use a "z" and not an "s". This is a very common mistake, but it would be corrected by the use of a spell checker, as would so many others.

If you want to write with authority, you have to be able to exhibit basic literacy. Yes, this is important and should be borne in mind by those who eulogize about "the Queen's English", thus making themselves look even more foolish than those they chastise. (a good example of a word that does actually end in “ise”) Regardless of who is on the throne, it is always "the King's English".

None of us are perfect and this is not a lecture on grammar and spelling, no matter how needed it might be.

If you are tempted to use PLR articles, even if you rewrite them in an attempt to make them unique, remember that you will be competing with all the other shortcut seekers who are doing the same thing. It's another shortcut to the delete key for a lot of directories.

When it comes to the resource box, it is quite amazing how many authors defeat their entire purpose by making a mess of this vital section. If the article directory in question allows one, two or three live Hyperlinks, make good use of them. Think about your anchor text very carefully. In other words don't say......to find out more click here and Hyperlink the words "click here". The resource box is where you need to give readers a compelling reason to visit your site(s) but it is also the one place you can make the most of good keywords as the anchor text in your links.

Use the resource box wisely and take full advantage of everything the directory is offering you by way of promotional tools. Adding your URL without making it a live link is a pointless waste of time if the directory allows you to use Hyperlinks in your resource box. Conversely, adding more than the quota of permitted links will probably result in deletion of your work.

Another thing to watch is linking directly to affiliate programs. Read the directory's policies on this point or again, you may well find yourself on the cutting room floor. Many directories will stipulate that you may only link to affiliate programs indirectly by referring readers to your own site or domain. Some do not allow straight redirect links either.

Relevancy is also an issue here too. In other words, submitting a PLR piece about gardening and linking to your MLM program is not very helpful or wise, just one more recipe for deletion.

I should finish by saying that yes, you can churn out badly written articles to your heart's content, just don't be surprised at the results.

The Secret

So if that is the case, then it is important to know how to draw readers to your blog. There are a number of ways to increase the readership of your blog. Here are four tips that will help you to increase your blog readership that are easy to do and will definitely pay off for you.

First of all, to increase readership you would want to increase the number of pages each reader is seeing. You don’t want to be judged only on your last post, but rather on the whole of your work. To that end, try highlighting related posts within your blog. At the end of an article, highlight posts that may be of interest to those who like the current post. Most blog platforms are fitted with plug-ins that will help you with this, but if they are not, then go ahead and at least list the links to other pages manually. Another similar idea is to highlight the related posts within the content of your post. If you are talking about a subject you have discussed before, link off of one of the keywords into the past post that is related. This will also help a past post to maintain its freshness.

A second tip for increasing your blog readership is to think about doing a series. A series is a great way to keep a reader coming back again and again. In addition, if you are linking back, you can get readers looking at multiple posts even after you are done with the series. Another way to increase readership is a little more “controversial” if you will. You can try putting excerpts on the front page of your blog from certain posts. Many people claim it is just a way to get more hits on your site. The truth is that extra hits are a little side benefit of it, but the real value is that it can make your site more engaging. By adding excerpts to the front page you can manage the front and keep it fresh while also teasing those who get that far into reading more than just your most recent blog post. This will encourage a prospective reader to explore your blog site a little more than they may have normally. Again, you want to be judged by the whole of your work, or at least by a larger piece of your work than just one post and this will do that. If your writing is up to par, then, you will see a rise in your readership.

Finally, if you really want to build and increase readership, you have to have good quality content. It should be useful, original, and interesting to your target audience as well as keeping them wanting more of the same. The more you raise the quality of your blog’s content, the more you will see your membership, readership, and page hits go up without even having to use any other “tricks.” People know what they like and they like quality for the most part. Okay, it's now time for the next installment of... "6 POWERFUL VRE(Virtual Real Estate) Business Models You Can Start Building In 2006 Using Google Adsense" series.

By now you should have a good idea of what Virtual Real Estate is and why it's to your benefit that you start a network of your own VRE sites depending on the model you choose.

In the last installment of this series I covered "Article Directories".

In this part of the VRE series I'm going to cover "Web Directories" in general and then give you some examples of what they might be and look like.

VRE Model #2. Web Directories.

An "Web Directory" is simply a directory on the World Wide Web that specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links. Web Directory owners will often allow site owners to submit their site for inclusion. Then human editors will review their submission and if accepted, will be added to their database.

The one thing about Web Directories is they are often used as part of a website marketing strategy for being indexed in the major search engines like Yahoo!, Google, MSN to name a few.

The main strategy behind someone submitting there website to a directory is that a new site needs to quickly build inbound links from reputable sources. In doing this they will get a higher ranking within search engine results under there target keywords depending on the PR(popularity ranking) of that directory or inbound link.

That's the basic run-down of what an Web Directories purpose is and why they make a great VRE business model.

Web Directories can be and target anything you want them to. It's your directory, so you make the decision as to what it is about.

As your directory grows, so will its traffic.

And if you have targeted affiliate programs strategically placed on your directory along side your Google Adsense code, you could be making a nice, steady income form your directory like many others are right now.

Now... as I said at the beginning of this article I would give you some examples of some Web Directories with Google Adsense so you see for yourself whether or not this is something you want to venture into.

So, with that said, here are 3 directories that I think will give you a good idea of what to expect:

I recommend you surf around and see whats out there with your interests in mind. By doing that you will be able to get some good idea's as to what to expect and more importantly, model your directory and/or VRE sites from.

1.  Let Them Procrastinate
Yeah, procrastination has stolen millions of dollars from the pockets of business men and women just like yourself.  The longer it works on the customer, the less likely they will be to open their wallet and hand over the dinero they've been hording there.

Here's how it works… First, the customer leaves your store without making the purchase.  Second, time causes the desire for the product to fade, and distracts them from making their way back.  Finally, your "almost customer" totally forgets about making the purchase, and you can kiss potential profits good-bye.

Don't let it happen to you! Make deals so irresistible they just can't say no, and set an expiration date.  Yes, put a little press on them to buy TODAY!  Reward them for complying, and make sure they forfeit the deal if they don't.  Don't  be victimized by "almost sales" that could be turned into REAL profits!

2.  Stay Off The Top Of Their Priority List
Hey, sometimes we need to be reminded of exactly what is and what isn't important in life.  Where we spend our money indicates its level of importance.  Are your customers telling you that your product isn't significant to them?

Put them where you want them to be with a dramatic word picture that evokes the emotions that drive purchases.  Let me say it this way… If you're trying to sell them a home business… let them feel the freedom of being their own boss, and setting their own schedule.  Are you selling water skis?  Get them on the water in the hot summer sun with the wind blowing their hair and water spraying around them.  Let them FEEL the importance of the decision.

You CAN motivate buyers to put a high priority on your product!

Do your customers feel confident that your company will provide the services that it says it will?  How many times have you raised an eyebrow at an offer that makes big promises?  Yeah, if you don't already know they are a reputable company, you're likely to take claims with a grain of salt.

Unconditional guarantees give credence to your desire to please customers.  Testimonials are evidence that you have a proven track record.  Put some facts in front of your "almost customers."  Let them know a little bit about you and your staff.  It's always easier to trust a person, than a business.

Internet customers are at especially high risks for feeling a legitimate amount of distrust.  After all, anyone can make grand claims, but who is responsible for upholding them?  A personal photo, a little information, and a phone number where a contact can be reached go a long ways toward building trust on the Web.

How many "almost customers" have slipped through your fingers?  You can effectively turn them into loyal customers who regularly frequent your place of business with the business savvy insights we've talked about in this article.

The Internet is the modern “Gold Rush”. Seems that everyone on the Internet is promising you vast riches with little to no effort.  But are these outrageous claims true?   Can you make $5,250 is Guaranteed with no efforts?

Well, I do believe the Internet is a phenomenal asset to those who want to make some money with less effort and financial investment than with a traditional home business.  Can you lounge around all day in your underwear doing nothing and be a millionaire by the end of the year?  Not likely.  However, if you did want to try your hand at a successful Internet career, take some tips from someone who's been there, done that, and has the scars to prove it.  Here's my hard-won, 5-step-plan for financial success on the Internet.

<b>Step one:  Find Some Adventurous, Business-Minded Soul Mates.</b>
 
Get at least two companions (five is best!) who will walk with you enthusiastically, and build your business together.  Having a couple of friends with you on the journey helps to keep everyone sane, and it’s a built in safety net for keeping you from investing in crazy schemes that would never tempt you during a moment of sanity.  Friends can also cheer you on through the necessary slogging at the beginning, and then they’re there to celebrate your success at the end.

<b>Step Two: Create Your “Cash Machine” </b>

There’s an old adage that says, “It takes money to make money” and, unfortunately, it’s true – mostly.  Therefore, according to Loral Langemeier, the Author of the excellent book “Making Millionaires” – first you have to learn how to run a business that makes money.  You don’t have to enjoy it, but it does have to make money – even just a little, and fast!  You use this first step to teach you how an Internet business works and to develop the right suite of tools and knowledge to gain a solid foundation.

<b>Step Three: Build Multiple Streams of Income</b>

When your first business is up and running, don't simply burn through the money.  Use half of the profits to advertise, and half of your profits to invest in the next business(es).  Keep building until you have a solid core of different businesses running under you.  This brings stability.  If you're wise, you will also be carefully investing in businesses that will give you great tools for running and advertising your businesses, as well as investing in courses that train you in the various areas of online marketing:  traffic, copywriting, list building, etc.  You must learn to use your profits wisely as even stable companies can sometimes go under.

<b>Step Four: Automate it. </b>

It is possible to run a completely functional business on 2-3 hours a day – or less – by simply automating the more routine activities.  Again, there’s nothing like the Internet for providing automated systems.

<b>Step Five: Develop Your Passion </b>

So now you've got some real money coming in with an automated system.  You can either stay there, or you can take your new knowledge and learn to apply it to your area of greatest passion – creating a business that you LOVE.  Simply find a need in an area of your passion (scrapbooking, fly fishing, old cars, fashion, etc.) and use the skills you've developed so far to set up a business in that area and let it take you on a wonderful ride!

So, can you make $1.7 million dollars?  Yes, you can, but it’s not going to be as easy as they tend to promise.  You do need to know what you’re doing, and it will take time.  

And what better time to try it out than over the summer when things tend to be a bit slower?

 Have you ever wondered just what it is about affiliate marketing.  I mean it is boasted you can make an ultimate winner income of about $100,000 a year from affiliate marketing.  Or are the 90% of internet marketers correct that are not making money saying your wallet is just swiss cheese with your money just floating through it.  I am not sure myself, but here in the last month I have signed up more than 550 total between three affiliate down lines, and 1000 people in my email list.  

Swiss cheese wallets seem to be the 90% that are not making money with affiliate programs.  People are just watching money drain from their wallets with no results what so ever.  People pay for pay – per - click advertising with Google Adsense, and purchase expensive email leads, and have no success what so ever.  Some Adwords pay – per - clicks can get very expensive.  Good leads can be very expensive depending on who you buy your leads from.  Just to have no luck in making sales, and building down lines.  So is it worth the trouble involved?  Yah, I will be the first to say residual income from an affiliate program down lines is great, who wouldn’t say it isn’t.  But, the expense you have to pay is absolutely, outrageous.  How do the ultimate winners do it.

The ultimate winners on the other hand boast of $1,000. ‘s of dollars per month from sales from affiliate programs.  But, how in the world are they doing it?  Are they using some so called new super Google Adwords program?  No.  Are the ultimate winners purchasing super leads from some secret source? No.  Than what is the difference?  Can anyone just lay it on the line, and tell us how to become ultimate winners!  Can anyone teach us how to prevent the swiss cheese wallet?    

The answers!  The questions to be answered are not elusive.  The internet is full of the answers to building down lines, and the six figure incomes.  The key to understanding the answers is who do you listen too, and study to build those massive down lines and six figure incomes.   Do the gurus have the answers?  Some of the gurus have been on the internet for 10 years, and have established down lines, and email list of 1,000’s of people.  Those same gurus have the credibility almost like Mother Teresa!  

So, than how has the big money earners done the same thing?  Earning millions of dollars with only 2 to 3 years on the internet.  These people have accomplished earning millions of dollars from affiliate programs.   Well, now if you just spend an evening surfing affiliate programs by the truly successful people you will discover they are all doing the same methods and tactics.   I have an idea, but you gotta get it from me; for free.  Yes for free!

Your affiliate marketing business is just that … a business. To be successful, you need to treat your business like a business and focus on growth. Your affiliate links are your business; you are the owner of a marketing company, and it is an asset you can grow into more and more assets. Here are three strategies to build your marketing business.

1. Get your own website and domain name.

It looks cheap and marks you as a “newbie” when you post a long affiliate link in your ads. With domain names as inexpensive as they are now you can purchase your own domain name. You can then either forward your URL to your affiliate link or set yourself up with some free hosting and establish more of a web presence. Your best bet is to write a benefit-full description of your affiliate program and link to your program via an HTML link that is part of your description.

2. Build your own list.

Stop relying on one-shot ads to make you money. Real businesses have repeat customers that they cultivate in order to make more profits. You must do the same. Make a commitment to establish relationships with your customers and especially with visitors to your site. Create an email list to keep in touch. Send out periodic tips or articles and focus on helping your customers. Only promote your affiliate links in unobtrusive ways; don’t make your emails one big ad.

One of the best ways to build traffic to your list is to write a short report that describes the benefits of your affiliate program. Make this report available only by email. When someone sends for your report, they are added to your list and you can continue to communicate with them.

3. Build traffic to your own site and list.

This is where you really make your affiliate links your own business. By having your own site and building your own list you are building your own business and brand, not just marketing someone else’s. By doing this, you can market to your own customers over and over again. Do not overlook this point: When your ad redirects a customer to your affiliate link, you have lost that person as your own customer because you lost the ability to communicate with them on a repeat basis. When you direct customers to your own site and list, they build a relationship with you.

There are many ways to build traffic: write articles, post in forums, market in safelists, advertise offline, etc. My advice is to pick one traffic-building method, work on it for awhile, and master it before moving on to something else. If you focus on offline advertising, write and rewrite your ads until you determine how to get the best response. If you market on safelists, make a list of the top 50, and send your ad to 10 each day. Keep testing to make sure your safelists are responsive.

Market research and careful planning are of paramount important to the success of a home business, as they are for any business. A business plan is a must. It must include details on the products and services the firm will offer, the type of business equipment and the cost of it that will be needed in the coming five years. It should also include information on the competition in the designated market area. This information should include ways that the new home business will be successful in competing – how it is unique and how it is an improvement over what else is out there in the same industry.

A successful home business is one that is set up as the right legal entity. One of the first things new home based entrepreneurs should do is learn the legal consequences and liabilities of the various business types, as well as the tax consequences of each. A home business might be more successful as a partnership than sole proprietorship, for example, if additional cash flow is needed, or the entrepreneur is deficient in a crucial home business skill such as advertising, marketing or accounting, for example. An accountant can advise on the various options such as limited liability corporations, S corporations, standard corporations, limited partnerships and so forth.

Unless a successful home business is going to include walk in customers homeowner’s or renters insurance should provide adequate financial protection against theft or natural disaster. Of course, as equipment and furnishings are added, the insurance would need to increase.  The lifeblood of any Internet marketer is their list. If you have an opt in email list then you are sitting on piles of cash, if you properly use your list then your earning potential is very high.

As many people ask "How do I build a list?" the following points describes some of the best ways for building your email list.

1) Newsletter / E-zine

We are in the Information Age and so people are desperate for information. Everyone is so busy with their lives they don’t have time to find the information for themselves. Publish a newsletter in your niche that is full of valuable content and you will get people flocking to you to sign up.

2) E-Courses

People are hungry for information, so a free e-course will persuade people to part with their email address. Create at least a seven part course that is delivered every few days into their inbox. Of course, the e-course also subtly sells your product!

3) Articles

Write articles and distribute them to article directories. Include your newsletter sign up in the resource box and if you have provided good quality content, you will get the visitors who will sign up to learn more.

4) Free Books

A free e-book is an excellent way to build your list. It doesn’t have to be an epic tome, just valuable information that people will exchange their email address for. In addition, as you participate in a forum that is relevant to your site's topic there will likely be opportunities to work your site into conversation. If you are going to join a forum then join a forum that help you learn more about your niche. If you have a website about a topic you enjoy, you can make money from discussion forums. Talk, post links to your site, get traffic. Traffic means money, right? If not, try different affiliate programs or Google Adwords. The worst sites should get a couple cents per visitor. Now here's how to talk and make money.

Search "forum" plus the topic of your site on Google or Alta Vista. For my first site, I searched "backpacking + forum" and in the pages of results I found several good forums. I also searched related topics like "hiking" too. You can also check about.com, and other sites that have forums on many topics.

Registration is usually giving your email address and choosing a password. Some forums allow guests to post without registering. Once registered, browse the forum topics, and post a response to anything, just to "learn the ropes".

Income From Discussion Forums

The point of posting in forums is to get readers to come to your web site. Sure it's fun to give advice and discuss things of interest to you, but that's secondary. With that in mind, do the following:

1. Always link to your site. If they don't allow any links, find another forum.

2. Don't "spam." Sales pitches will be removed. Offer honest advice, or express an opinion, then sign off with your name and the link to your site.

3. Ask for help from others. This is an effective and acceptable way to "advertise." Enter a topic like "Can I get some advice?" and post something like, "I just started a meditation site. If some of you would visit and tell me what you think, I'd really appreciate it." Have a link to the site. People love to help, and to give  opinions, and they'll click on those ads while they're at your site.

4. Look at total "views." Many forums show the total times each "thread" has been viewed. When you see some with many more than others, get in on those, or start a new thread on the same topic. Go where the traffic is, and get some of it.

I didn't like the idea of forums until I made a few posts, and saw my traffic and revenue climb for days afterwards. That convinced me. Just be polite, offer some value to others, and always have a link to your site. Many other secrets of using forums are covered in my newsletter, but this should be get you started. Wealth creation involves a slew of different concepts that can only contribute positively to your life. In the hustle and bustle of a fast lifestyle, people seem to forget the different methods that make individuals successful. For some people, they just lose the perspective to apply the different success methods. When people lose focus and tend to view the small details as part of their success pattern, then the goal loses its value. That is why it is important not to forget the different personal concepts that govern wealth creation.

Having a Wealthy View

Financial abundance and wealth creation is a real and tangible idea. But there is a critical condition to it. In order to grasp the ideas of wealth creation, one must take the view of the rich and the wealthy. To have a wealthy view is to have the mindset of a millionaire.

Wealth creating mindset sees the world in a different light. That fundamental principle allows successful people to adapt to different problems while finding fresh methods to attack the blocks that hinders them from achieving their financial goals. They find optimism when an ordinary optimist says no. They also find encouragement in defeats. Most importantly, they find opportunities when it is most invisible. The key to create wealth is therefore to master personal concepts to develop a wealthy perspective.

Where most people find nothing, wealth creation entails finding value in things. However, the most successful wealth creators not only find value. Instead, they create it! In order to create or increase one’s value, wealth creators increase their own individual value first. Wealth creators realize that in order to succeed, one must always exceed even their own expectations. An adaptive mindset that creates value wherever he goes will find himself very important element in a successful enterprise. .

Wealth creation also entails seizing opportunities. In leadership terms, we call it initiative. Individually, we can call it being proactive. A proactive person finds things to do when others see it as free time. They do not wait for opportunities to bite them. Instead, they come biting at opportunities. Once you become a proactive person, you will suddenly find that opportunities come at you at a much faster rate, giving you way to create more wealth.

If you do not follow your passion, wealth creation is not fun. Wealth creation is hard enough of a process. If you feel that these activities are routine and boring, you will be gasping for air before you get halfway there. The most successful people will usually tell you that they love what they are doing. They will even go far as saying that they will do the things that they love even though they won’t get paid for it. Once we find our passion, everything becomes easy and you will be on the top of the wealth creation chain in no time.

Saving is involved in wealth creation, and that means foregoing what we can spend now for later. While the concept of “delayed gratification” seems easy, only a few people can heartily apply it. Delaying gratification allows us to see into the future and believe that there is a better value for happiness if you save gratification. With the savings compounded over time, wealth is created. Removing instant gratification from our habits will ensure that money always goes wherever they need to go.

People decide to open their own home business for many reasons. You may want to spend more time with your family, be your own boss, or make more money than a 9 to 5 job can offer. In a job that has you working for others, your entire work life and sometimes your home life is strictly scheduled for you. Before you get the home business off the ground make sure that everything is in place. This means setting aside special hours in the day to do the most important activities. Remember that you will need to make contact with clients, banks and other businesses and most of this has to be done during the day and usually no later than 5pm. Prevent exhaustion by following the plans you laid out so that you don’t overwork yourself.

Business continues to move forward so you will have to constantly update yourself when new business ideals are put on the market. You can take classes or teach yourself over the internet, but stay ahead of the pack by knowing everything you can because it will help you to better develop your business.

A good way to break bad habits that can have adverse affects on your business is to write them down on paper whenever you discover a new one. Once you know the habits that are holding you back, you can implement different steps that can help you to overcome these habits.

For instance, smoking can be as bad for your business as it is for your health. If you smoke outside the home, you could lose valuable time by constantly stopping your work to run outside to have a cigarette.

Procrastination is by far one of the worst habits that can cause your business to crumble from the bottom up. If you constantly put off work and say that you’ll do it tomorrow, deadlines will pass and clients will choose other business owners that they can depend on. Once you lose customers it can be hard to seduce them back to using your company and services.

Your business is real, so treat it that way. If you don’t take it seriously, no one else will. However, this does not mean that you will have to bypass having a bit of fun every now and then. Taking a break to enjoy yourself will help you to stay fresh and on top of your business. If you work yourself too hard, you can quickly burn out and lose the enthusiasm you once had at the start of your home business.

Remember that this is a work at home business. You control the time and hours that you work. Realize that there may have been activities that you would have loved to do in the past but your 9 to 5 job was holding you back. Now that you don’t have those worries anymore, set aside some time to enjoy those activities. Your business is done at home but that does not mean that you have to be glued to your computer chair for the entire day.

Invest in having good programming in your site, make your graphics beautiful but don’t over do it.

3) Provide good service and products. A return customer is more likely to bring in more business. Even then and now, a satisfied customer will recommend a business always. Word of mouth and recommendations alone can rake in more business than an expensive ad. As your clientele roster grows so shall your list. With more members on the list, the more people will get to know about what you have new to offer.

4) Keep a clean and private list. Never lose the trust your customers have entrusted you. If you provide e-mails to others and they get spammed, many will probably unsubscribe to you. Remember, a good reputation will drive in more traffic and subscribers as well as strengthen the loyalty of your customers.

Using a blog to market something is cheaper than using a website. This is because there are so many free ones out there that you can use to get the word out, and they are really just as good as having a website that you pay for. There are of course some advantages to having your own URL, but for a beginner, a free one will work until you get the hang of it and want to move it all over onto your own server. The free blogs are just not that customizable. If you are not familiar with HTML, you are going to find that your blog will look like everyone else’s. But, that is ok in the beginning. Step One:  Plan for the Unexpected Big Time Bill

The first step arises from debt from a one-time large expense - something that is too large to be paid for with your monthly paycheck, or by saving for a few months. 

Many of these debts are investments in either an asset that will appreciate over time, or a income stream that will be greater over time.  The most common example is the purchase of a home.  Very few people are able to save enough money to purchase their home outright, or pay for their entire home out of a few paychecks.  We use a mortgage to pay for the home after-the-fact, and to enjoy home ownership in the meanwhile.  Another example is investment in education.  Many people cannot afford to pay for college tuition outright - so we take out loans, planning that our future income stream will enable us to be able to afford to pay for the education after-the-fact. 

The more insidious type of one-time large expense is the expense that is not an investment.  The emergency, unexpected, unplanned-for bill - extreme medical bills, disability, failure of a business, a lawsuit judgment, or long-time unemployment.  These bills can put a family under - forcing them to either sell assets, move out of their home, or declare bankruptcy, because they will never be able to pay off the debt with their income.

One way to combat this danger is to set aside three to six months of your living expenses in a special savings account - an Emergency Fund -- to be used for the emergency, unexpected expense.  This money is sacred, only for a family emergency.  The Emergency Fund will save your family from potential tragedy and help you create a secure future. 

Action Step #1:  Open a special savings account to be your Emergency Fund.   Set aside money each paycheck or month to fund this account. 

Step Two:  Think Out of the Budget Box

Instead of worrying about budgets, this step is the flip side of cash flow problems - income.   

We know when we have a debt problem.  We may stop opening bills, stop answering the phone.  We may even try to create budgets, reduce our expenses, cancel cable, live at the basic minimum, to try to stop the bleeding.

But sometimes, overspending is not the problem.  It is underearning.

You may just not earn enough to afford to live your life.  I'm not talking about living an extravagant lifestyle, or even a "nice" lifestyle - but the basic necessities of life - housing, automobile, phone, insurance, groceries, gas, clothing - may add up to too much, given your income.  This is especially common in expensive places to live, like the Silicon Valley. 

The first step in dealing with this problem is to stop feeling guilty.  You are not a bad person, who spends irresponsibly.  You are someone who needs to acknowledge that you need, want, and deserve more income. 

Instead of being frozen in guilt, start to take action on creating more income.  You may not need to do something radical - you may just need to ramp up what you are already doing, or look for hidden treasure already in your life. 

Put together a proposal for your boss, to describe how the company would be better if you got a raise.  Create a new information product to generate passive income for your business.  Search your basement for items you can auction on e-bay.  Teach a class on scrapbooking, or changing the oil in your car.  Have a garage sale to generate some quick cash, and reduce the clutter in your life. 

Whatever you do, the important idea is to start today. 

Action Step #2:  Brainstorm 5 ways you will earn more income now - such as - ask for a raise, look for a new job, start a small business, sell a new product, auction old items on e-bay, rent out a room, teach a skill, or have a garage sale.   

Step Three:  Planning for the Big Stuff

This step is about the debts that sneak up on us.  You may be able to pay for your bills and regular expenses each month -- but what happens if the car breaks down?  The property tax bill arrives?  Your quarterly's are due?  Christmas?  Baby announcement?  Wedding invite?  The family or high school reunion?  The big family vacation you all deserve?

Are you able to pay for those non-monthly expenses out of your paycheck or your small business profits?  Or, do those items go on a credit card? 

Automobile repair, gifts, taxes, and travel are all examples of expenses that are non-monthly, but are expected.  We know they are coming, but not necessarily when, or how much.  These expenses should not be going on a credit card - you should save for them ahead of time, so you do not pay a bank 10-20+% a year for the privilege of paying for your expenses after-the-fact.

Go through your bills, receipts, and cards for the last year, or the last few years, and figure out how much you spend on each of these categories each year, on average.  If you don't have those records, make a realistic estimate.  Divide that annual amount by 12.  That's how much you should set aside each month for your irregular expenses. 

Action Step #3:  Open a special savings account for at least one non-regular expense:  either auto repairs, taxes, travel, or gifts.  Save a fixed amount each month in that savings account, so when bills are due, you already have the money! 

Step Four:  Plug The Holes

Step four is about how to prevent your family from going into debt, by planning for your expenses ahead of time.  This step we come to the most insidious problem, and the most difficult to conquer - overspending. 

Do you know where your money goes each month?  How much are all of your bills?  How much are you spending on Dining Out?  Drinks Out?  Gas?   Target & Costco?  Clothes?  Personal care (i.e., massage, pedicures)?  Recreation - movies, golf, Netflix?  Toys (both for the kids, and for yourselves)?  Do you really know? 

Do you spend your money in accordance to your values and priorities?  Is there one, or  more areas, where you are spending money not because you particularly need, or even enjoy, that product or service - but because you are not paying attention, or because you are compensating for another problem in your life by habitually spending money in that area?

Commonly, we see this in clothes, toys for kids, recreation, high-tech gadgets, and dining out - easy for relatively small expenditures, made each day or week, to add up to hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each month.  Spending without thinking will derail you from ever being able to achieve your most important life goals.  Especially if you are spending more than your income, month after month. 

Instead of being frozen in guilt, do something about it.  Look over your habits for the last few months, and pick the most obvious problem area, where you "go" when you are stressed, bored, or unhappy.  Do you buy CDs?  Shop online?  Get a new pair of shoes?  Start in one category, and create good habits and rules for yourself in that area - then carry those personal rules over to the rest of your expenses. 

Action Step #4:  Create a Cash-Only account for your problem category.  Withdraw your budgeted monthly amount in cash on the first day of the month, and place the cash in an envelope - when the envelope is empty, you're done!

1) Set up a separate working space in your home. It doesn't matter if this is a small bedroom, one part of the garage, or a corner of the living room. The important thing is to have some space that you can designate as your working area. This will give you the space and room you need to craft your dream.

2) Stock your working space with materials. This sounds basic, perhaps, but one underlying element of success is that you have easy access to the tools, materials, and other resources you need. Gathering everything close by also keeps you from wasting time searching for it, so this step can be considered a time management strategy, too.

3) Speaking of time management, your third step is to define the parameters of your business. What days and hours will you work? When will you market? When will you provide services or products to clients? How will you keep all of this straight?

4) Balance action with planning. One of the most common pitfalls to successful entrepreneurship is getting too caught up in action without enough planning. Stated another way, this means that you confuse "being busy" with "working on important projects."
